Nyungwe Forest National Park

Nyungwe Forest National Park: Located in the southern part of the country, 6 hour’s drive away from Kigali, Nyungwe forest is still one of the few remaining Albertan rift valley rain forest that has played a great role, towards Rwanda’s water catchment scheme.

Nyungwe forest, is known of hosting over 13 primate species and a number of endemic Albertan bird species.

On a visit to Nyungwe Forest National Park, one has a basket of activities to choose from. The park is rich on number of activities, from canopy walk, to chimpanzee trekking, nature walks with a number of different trails, hiking trails, bird watching and community encounter at boma community. You can combine any of the above activities, with whichever other activity you wish to do on your visit to Nyungwe National Park, including tea plantation tour visit.

Number of lodges do exist outside the park, with majority on the Ruzizi district side.

You can access Nyungwe through Kigali Huye route or Kigali Kibuye route. The drive through Kibuye, offers you with a beautiful en route view of Lake Kivu and you can have a chance to do a boat ride on Lake Kivu, while the drive through Huye, you stand a chance to visit both King Palace museum and Ethnographic museum.

Those from Volcanoes National Park, can access Kigali through Gisenyi – Kibuye route.

Those from Akagera have to pass through Kigali, and either uses Huye route or Kibuye side.

Nyungwe forest is very famous for harboring the chimpanzee, and over 18 slots are available to daily basis.

An early booking of the chimpanzee permits, is highly recommended, so as not to miss out.
