Located in the Northern Province, 3 hours’ drive away from Kigali and Kigali airport, Volcanoes National Park, is the major attraction in Rwanda, with majority of tourists jetting in, for the gorilla trekking tours.
Known for the famous mountain gorillas, Volcanoes National Park has over 12 well habituated gorilla families, ready to receive 96 visitors per day.
On daily basis, a number of tourists, turns up for the gorilla trekking adventure, in the park, where they start with the briefing and registration at the park office in Kinigi which is just 20 minutes’ drive away from Musanze town.

Just like the gorilla trekking, same procedures applies to golden monkey trekking, and 36 permits are available on a daily basis.
Volcanoes hiking
The Virunga massive, seats on 5 major volcanoes, thus Karisimbi, Muhabura, Sabinyo, Bisoke and Mgahinga. Its only Karisimbi, Muhabura and Bisoke that can be hiked from Rwanda side.
Mount Karisimbi, however requires two days hike, with a night camp on top, while for the rest a day hike is possible. Dina Fossey grave yard hike, can as well be of great consideration for hikers, who which to learn more about the amazing history of this American lady, who played a great roles towards gorilla conservation.
Bird watching
A number of bird species can be sighted at Volcanoes National Park, therefore for those who would wish to look out for the winged ones to complement their stay, there are great chances to spot them.
